How this list is used

Reading for Paediatric Hemato-Oncology

Pizzo and Poplack is the exam book and is read disease-by-disease across the fellowship, while Nathan and Oski is the reference for the benign haematology half, which in India means high-volume thalassaemia, sickle cell disease and aplastic anaemia clinics. Lanzkowsky's manual is the one that stays on the ward trolley for dosing, workup and supportive care. Day-to-day chemotherapy is delivered off ICiCLe and InPOG protocol documents rather than any textbook, so the current protocol booklet sits next to the books. The WHO classification is needed because diagnosis and risk stratification are written in its language.

The exit examination

What you are reading towards

The exit examination is the FEE - Fellowship Exit Examination, held after completion of the fellowship training. Theory: one paper of 100 marks (10 questions of 10 marks each) of three hours' duration. Practical: 300 marks, comprising clinical examination and viva voce. A candidate must obtain a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate across theory and practical (200 of 400) to qualify, with the theory paper itself to be passed at 50/100. Trainees must also appear in the formative assessment during training. Successful candidates are awarded the FNB (or FNB-PD) at the annual NBEMS convocation.
