Three years is less time than it sounds. The order below is what works for most DNB General Surgery residents — broad and readable first, reference-level later, revision and drilling last.
Build the base: read Bailey & Love cover to cover once alongside Last's Anatomy and the S. Das clinical manual, and start daily bedside case presentations. Finalise and register the thesis protocol.
Move to depth - Sabiston or Schwartz for evidence and pathophysiology, Maingot's and Zollinger's before operative lists, and begin systematic journal reading (Indian Journal of Surgery, BJS, Annals of Surgery) for seminars and journal clubs.
Shift to exam mode: revise from SRB's Manual, drill long and short cases weekly, work through past DNB theory papers, rehearse instruments/specimens/X-ray viva, and complete thesis submission before the practical exam.
