OBG is examined in final year and sits at or near the top of NEET PG's subject list in 2025–26 analyses. This guide pulls together the teachers, notes, image practice and question routines that toppers and students describe, from your first labour-room posting to a drop year.
Coaching estimates of OBG's share are built from recalled past papers: ReflexPrep, which scales 14 years of them to the 180-question format, puts it at 14–18 questions (August 2026), and PW's July 2026 pattern page at 15–18. Read them as a range, not a quota.
The candidates' own verdict is clearer. In PrepLadder's survey after the 30 August 2026 paper, 83.7% of respondents named OBG as heavily weighted, ahead of Medicine (69.8%) and Surgery (65.9%). DBMCI's review of the 2025 paper had already found OBG to be the subject with the most questions.
Expect cases, not one-liners. PrepLadder's review of the hardest parts of the 2026 paper called the OBG questions clinical, image-based and management-focused, and rated them difficult; Marrow's 2025 review, quoted by Careers360, found several image-based OBG questions but called them fairly straightforward. Think ultrasound pictures, CTG traces and labour cases built on the partograph.
Courses teach the two halves separately, and DC Dutta even comes as two books, but questions cross between them. Oncourse's 2026 OBG guide counts treating them as separate subjects among the common mistakes.
OBG postings begin before final year. Follow a labour on the partograph, score a cervix with the Bishop score and go through CTG traces with the residents: the same tasks the paper sets as images and vignettes. For a head start, Dr Shagun Batra (NEET PG 2022 AIR 1) made notes and solved MCQs for the pre-final and final-year subjects during 3rd year.
OBG is one of the four final-prof subjects. DC Dutta carries the university exam; for NEET PG, pair it with one platform's OBG lectures and clear each chapter's Qbank on the day you watch it. Dr Saikumar (AIR 3, NEET PG 2024) covered all his clinical subjects this way in final year, and Dr Vaibhav Garg, the 2024 AIR 1, was taking Grand Tests from the start of that year.
The internship's OBG posting includes labour-room and theatre work. DBMCI's internship guide puts OBG in the first group of subjects to cover, and DigiNerve's five-month intern plan gives month three to Medicine, Surgery and OBG. Read the chapter behind the day's cases; Dr Soumyaditya (INI-CET AIR 2) said many questions come straight from internship work.
PrepLadder's 650+ guide puts OBG among six high-priority subjects, with Medicine, Surgery, PSM, Pathology and Pharmacology, that share 60% of study time. Take it early in the year, both halves together. Dr Monish (AIR 1, NEET PG 2026) studied four or five subjects at a time and revised each block before starting the next.
Marrow suggests starting revision videos at least 60 days out; its full set takes 27–36 days at 4.5–6 hours a day. For OBG that means rapid revision at 1.5x over your annotated notes, the OBG PYQs topic by topic, and daily rounds of your notebook of regimens, criteria and scan timings. Add test-and-discussion sessions only where Grand Tests show a gap.
Two OBG teachers recur in student material. Dr Sakshi Arora, Marrow's OBG teacher in 2026, appears in a 2020 student guide to choosing faculty and in an undated Marrow-versus-PrepLadder comparison that rates her highly. Dr Deepti Bahl of DAMS is the other: a 2020 student guide urged readers to attend her lectures, a 2026 INI-CET ranker used her test-and-discussion (T&D) sessions, and she co-wrote DAMS's 2026 DVT revision book.
Did OBG from Marrow's rapid revision and BTR (Dr Zainab Vora's revision course), plus Dr Deepti Bahl's T&D sessions; extra resources only for weak areas.
Urged readers to attend Dr Deepti Bahl's OBG lectures, calling her the clear first choice for the subject.
Took an OBG seat at AIIMS Patna through INI-CET. Her advice: sit a Grand Test early to see where you stand, because you cannot read everything.

Rosters as listed on each platform's own 2026 course pages (read 2 Oct 2026). Teachers do change between editions, so check the course page before you buy.
Mixing platforms is common, but the OBG add-on in Dr Sanika Mahar's list was a T&D series, not a second full course; she kept one primary source per subject. An undated comparison blog suggests a Marrow base, which it rates highly for OBG, topped up with single PrepLadder subjects where you feel more at ease. Our platform comparison covers each course.
DigiNerve's June 2026 OBG guide sets the order: course, OBG Qbank, previous-year questions, one-shot revision videos, rapid notes and, last, image practice. Oncourse suggests 50–70 OBG questions a day once you reach the practice phase. Dr Pallakshi (AIR 2, NEET PG 2026) first attempted almost every Qbank question, then focused on those a large share of students got wrong.
PrepLadder's June 2026 ultrasound guide expects three to five direct obstetric ultrasound questions per paper, covering the NT scan (11–13+6 weeks), CRL dating, the anomaly scan (18–20 weeks), soft markers, Doppler, IUGR, liquor volume and placental grading. Copy its memory line into your notebook: “NT at 12, anomaly scan at 20, growth scan at 32.” Add CTG interpretation (PW's 2026 list) and the instruments DigiNerve flags.
| Area | What to know |
|---|---|
| Postpartum haemorrhage | The 4 Ts approach; oxytocin, methylergometrine, carboprost, then B-Lynch suture and hysterectomy. Atonic PPH was a 2025 recall, and one 2025 analysis cited the Bakri balloon as current practice. |
| Hypertensive disorders | Pre-eclampsia versus eclampsia, diagnostic criteria, HELLP syndrome, magnesium sulphate regimens. On PrepLadder's, PW's and DigiNerve's 2026 lists. |
| Labour | Partograph (on PrepLadder's study list); Bishop score, cervical ripening and contraindications to external cephalic version (2026 recalls); shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse and episiotomy closure (2025). |
| Fetal monitoring and ultrasound | CTG interpretation; scan timings; Doppler; IUGR; liquor volume. |
| Antenatal care | Physiological changes of pregnancy, aneuploidy screening, timing of delivery in GDM (2026 recall). |
| Ectopic pregnancy | Methotrexate versus surgery. |
| Fibroids, adenomyosis, AUB | FIGO classification of fibroids (2026), adenomyosis diagnosis (2025 and 2026, with MRI cited as current practice), the AUB classification. |
| PCOS and ovarian failure | Rotterdam criteria; premature ovarian insufficiency (2025 recall). |
| Contraception | IUCD types and emergency contraception. |
| Gynaecological oncology | Cervical cancer screening; the cancers and their tumour markers. |
| Other 2026 recalls | Vesicovaginal fistula, pelvic septic thrombophlebitis. |
From PrepLadder's 2026 study-and-skip and high-yield lists, PW and DigiNerve (2026), an older DBMCI list and 2025–26 recalls (MedExamsPrep, Sartha). PrepLadder's OBG skip zone: uterine anomalies, IVF protocols, gestational trophoblastic disease subtypes, forceps classifications.
PrepLadder's 650+ guide puts OBG in the high-priority group sharing 60% of study time, so a full-time year can give it a proper block. One four-week version:
Pregnancy physiology and antenatal care, aneuploidy screening and ultrasound, normal labour with the partograph and Bishop score, then PPH, hypertensive disorders, ectopic pregnancy and APH. Keep videos at 1.5x, mark up a single set of notes, and clear the matching Qbank before you sleep.
AUB, fibroids and adenomyosis, PCOS and ovarian insufficiency, contraception, infertility, then cancers and screening, linking each back to the obstetric chapters it touches.
A sitting each for CTG, obstetric ultrasound, the partograph and instruments; then OBG PYQs topic by topic.
Write the short notebook of sequences, regimens, criteria, contraindications and scan windows. It and your rapid revision carry you through the last month.
During internship, DigiNerve and Cerebellum both treat 2–3 focused hours a day as realistic. On an OBG posting, spend the first hour on OBG: the chapter behind the day's cases and its PYQs. Save a full OBG subject test for an off day.
Recall-based 2026 estimates put it at about 14–18 (ReflexPrep, August 2026) or 15–18 (PW, July 2026). Analyses agree it is among the heaviest subjects: 83.7% of PrepLadder's 2026 survey called it heavily weighted, and DBMCI counted the most questions for OBG in 2025.
Students most often name Dr Sakshi Arora (Marrow) and Dr Deepti Bahl (DAMS), whose T&D sessions Dr Sanika Mahar (INI-CET AIR 155) added to her revision. The other 2026 courses: Dr Shonali Chandra (PrepLadder), Dr Raina Chawla (Cerebellum), Dr Ramyashree (DBMCI One), Dr Gayathri (DocTutorials) and Dr Prassan Vij (PW MedEd).
DC Dutta is the final-prof standard and good for understanding. For NEET PG, toppers describe working from platform notes, the Qbank and PYQs; Oncourse calls DC Dutta the reference for full coverage and suggests Sakshi Arora Hans or Novak's for revision. Use the textbook to clear doubts.
Study them in one block. Courses teach two halves, but questions move between them, and Oncourse counts treating OBG as two subjects as a common mistake. Finish obstetrics, go straight into gynaecology, and revise both together.
Practise with the images themselves. PrepLadder expects three to five direct obstetric ultrasound questions per paper, with timing tested as well as findings. Do CTG, scans and partographs in one sitting each, then Qbank modules tagged image-based.
