NEET PG Paediatrics: milestones, newborns and vaccines first

Paediatrics is examined in final year and reaches NEET PG as clinical cases, recall tables and pictures. The sources, tables and practice routines below come from rank-holders, students and the 2026 analyses, with a plan for final year, internship and a drop year.

Where it stands

Where Paediatrics sits in NEET PG

For the 2026 paper, recall-based estimates put Paediatrics at 8–12 of 180 questions (ReflexPrep, August 2026) and 10–12 (PW, July 2026). After the 30 August paper, PW's analysis grouped it with Dermatology as a subject where 5–8 questions could be expected. PrepLadder's 650+ guide places it in the medium-priority group, with Microbiology and Radiology.

It was prominent in 2025: Cerebellum's review put Paediatrics with Medicine, Surgery, OBG and Orthopaedics at the centre of that paper. In 2026, PrepLadder's review listed Paediatrics questions on nutrition, cardiology, nephrology, genetics and infectious disease, mostly clinical and management-based and of moderate difficulty. Recalled topics include diphtheria with its pseudomembrane and the blueberry muffin rash of congenital infections (Sartha).

The difficulty sits in the options. Marrow's look back at the 2025 paper (via Careers360) put it plainly: “Confusing options to expected topics made it difficult”. Paediatrics is also a likely home for video questions; PrepLadder's August 2026 guide expects clips of milestones and reflexes, and Marrow's Edition 8.5 Qbank now includes video-based MCQs.

How it connects. Neonatology continues from OBG, congenital heart disease sits beside Medicine's cardiology, and the immunisation schedule overlaps Community Medicine, where PrepLadder's 2026 list includes the UIP schedule with PCV, RVV, MR and IPV. Paediatrics belongs to the final professional year (Phase III Part II), though its postings begin earlier.
Year by year

Paediatrics through MBBS, internship and a drop year

2nd–3rd year postings

Learn the tables on real children

Paediatrics postings begin before final year. Plot a child on a growth chart, check an immunisation card against the schedule and note which milestones a child has reached. DigiNerve's intern guide recommends using real patients to fix symptoms and signs, and the same works in student postings. Dr Ravi Bansal (AIR 5, NEET PG 2024) began NEET PG work in 3rd year, a good point to watch the Paediatrics videos once.

Final year (Part II)

One textbook, one course, two exam styles

Read Ghai, or Piyush Gupta's UG textbook, for the university exam, and take one platform's Paediatrics course alongside, with its Qbank in the same week. Theory papers and clinical cases follow a different pattern from NEET PG, so keep some MCQs going even in exam months. Dr Devesh (INI-CET AIR 8) and Dr Naisargi (AIR 19, NEET PG 2025) both began Grand Tests in final year.

Internship

NICU and ward weeks

The internship includes a Paediatrics posting with NICU and PICU exposure. Align your reading with it, as DigiNerve's intern guide advises: neonatal jaundice, NRP and NEC while you are in the NICU, infections and nutrition on the ward. Dr Nishid (AIR 11, NEET PG 2025), who went on to MD Paediatrics at AIIMS Delhi, prepared through MBBS and internship, keeping notes for quick revision of weak areas.

Drop year

A medium block, revised every cycle

Oncourse's 2026 guide gives Paediatrics 6–8 weeks of a 12-month plan, 4–5 weeks of a six-month plan and 2–3 weeks of a three-month plan. Take it soon after OBG so neonatology follows on from obstetrics, then bring it back in every cycle. PrepLadder's 650+ guide asks for 3–4 full revisions overall and treats the last five years' papers as mandatory.

Final 60 days

Recall work, a little every day

In the last two months Paediatrics is mostly recall: milestones, the immunisation schedules, NRP steps, exchange criteria and syndrome pictures. Careers360's August 2026 advice is 20–30 minutes a day on subjects such as Paediatrics so they do not slip. Spend those minutes on your one-page tables and the subject's PYQs, and let Grand Test mistakes pick the next day's topic.

Who students follow

Paediatrics teachers and sources students name

For Paediatrics, students talk about their revision source more than about a teacher. INI-CET AIR 155 Dr Sanika Mahar, who climbed from a rank of about 40,000, covered it with Marrow's rapid revision and BTR, the all-subject revision course by Dr Zainab Vora that now runs on her own CoreBTR app. Across 3,277 comments on 40 NEET PG strategy and resource videos from October 2025 to October 2026, BTR and rapid revision were the two resources students brought up most.

Covered Paediatrics with Marrow's rapid revision and BTR, kept one primary source per subject, and saved extra videos for weak topics.

Students mix courses freely. One commenter under INI-CET AIR 87 Dr Sukriti Kaushik's resources video did the final-year majors from main notes and every short subject from rapid revision. An undated Marrow-versus-PrepLadder comparison blog prefers PrepLadder for Paediatrics while rating Marrow highly for OBG, which shows how personal the choice is. Finish one course before adding another; our platform comparison has the details.

Notes, books, Qbank

Books, notes and practice for Paediatrics

For the final-prof exam

For NEET PG

Qbank, PYQs and guidelines

DigiNerve's 2026 Paediatrics guide sets the order as course, Paediatrics Qbank, PYQs, one-shot revision videos, rapid notes and finally image practice, and names the guidelines to know: the National Immunisation Schedule, IAP and IMNCI. Oncourse adds the NRP guidelines, WHO growth charts and UNICEF feeding guidance, and says to learn the IAP schedule with its contraindications.

Images, syndromes and clips

PrepLadder's high-yield Paediatrics flashcards cover Down, Patau and Treacher Collins syndromes, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Pompe disease, congenital syphilis, NEC, malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies, immunodeficiencies, teratogens and neonatal resuscitation equipment. Study the visual ones as pictures: faces, rashes and equipment. For video questions, watch milestone and reflex clips rather than only reading the tables.

Printing tip. Print syndrome photographs, rashes, growth charts and resuscitation-equipment pages in colour; the rest of Paediatrics reads well in black and white. Put the milestone and immunisation tables on single sheets at the front of the binder, so a five-minute look between postings is easy.

Built from PrepLadder's 2026 study-and-skip and expected-topic lists and its December 2025 flashcards, DigiNerve's 2026 guide, 2026 recalls (Sartha, PrepLadder) and DBMCI's 2021 list. PrepLadder suggests skipping rare genetic syndromes, uncommon paediatric malignancies and detailed metabolic screening.

Avoid

Mistakes students make in Paediatrics

A working plan

Paediatrics in three weeks, then a little every day

Oncourse allows 2–3 weeks for Paediatrics in a three-month plan and more in longer ones. This 21-day block borrows DigiNerve's order: course and Qbank first, PYQs and image practice at the end.

  1. Days 1–6: neonatology

Neonatal resuscitation and the NRP algorithm, jaundice with exchange criteria, HMD, NEC and congenital infections. Finish each topic's Qbank the same day.

  2. Days 7–11: growth, nutrition and immunisation

Milestones by domain, growth charts and anthropometry, malnutrition and vitamins, then the national and IAP schedules. Build your one-page tables as you go.

  3. Days 12–17: systems

Cardiology with congenital heart disease, respiratory (croup versus epiglottitis), infections, neurology, nephrology, haematology, genetics and emergencies.

  4. Days 18–21: images, PYQs and compression

Syndromes, rashes and equipment as pictures, the Paediatrics PYQs topic by topic, then cut your notes down to the tables and lists for the final month.

During internship, keep Paediatrics ticking over with the 20–30 daily minutes Careers360 suggests and a full Paediatrics test every few weeks. On the Paediatrics posting itself, use that time on the chapters behind the day's admissions.

Frequently asked

Paediatrics for NEET PG: frequent questions

How many questions come from Paediatrics in NEET PG?

Recall-based 2026 estimates put it at about 8–12 (ReflexPrep) and 10–12 (PW) of 180, and PW's analysis after the August 2026 paper suggested around 5–8. Its topics also overlap with OBG and Community Medicine questions.

Which Paediatrics teacher should I follow?

Students' 2026 resource lists tend to name a revision source rather than a Paediatrics teacher; Dr Sanika Mahar, INI-CET AIR 155, did it from Marrow's RR plus BTR. The 2026 courses are taught by Dr Singaram (Marrow), Dr Meenakshi Bothra (PrepLadder), Dr Anand Bhatia (Cerebellum), Dr Aditya Gupta (DBMCI One), Dr Sandeep Sharma (DocTutorials) and Dr Divya Madan (PW MedEd).

Is Ghai enough for NEET PG?

Ghai is what the university exam expects, and DigiNerve calls it comprehensive. For NEET PG, add your platform notes, the Qbank and PYQs; for extra questions, DigiNerve lists Review of Paediatrics and Neonatology with over 3,200 MCQs.

How do I remember milestones and the immunisation schedule?

Make one table for each and revise them in short daily sessions. Learn the schedule with its contraindications, and the milestones as behaviours you could spot in a video clip, since PrepLadder expects milestone videos.

Main videos or rapid revision for Paediatrics?

In final year with time to spare, one pass of a main course alongside your postings also helps with the university exam. Short on time, rankers such as Dr Sanika Mahar have managed with rapid revision plus BTR. Either way, finish with PYQs and image practice.

Should I print Paediatrics notes in colour?

Colour for syndrome photos, rashes, growth charts and equipment; black and white for the rest. Put the milestone and vaccine tables at the front. Send your PDF on and we will quote for it.

Order your Paediatrics notes printout

Send your Paediatrics PDF on WhatsApp, whether it is platform notes, rapid-revision notes or your own tables. We print image pages in colour, can put the milestone and immunisation tables up front, and deliver to any address in India.
