Reading for Biochemistry

Biochemistry PhD reading divides cleanly into the pathway books and the bench books. Lehninger and Harper's carry course work and the comprehensive between them, Alberts is read for the cell-biology framing that a molecular thesis needs, and Devlin is the one that keeps the clinical correlation in view when the scholar is also running the hospital lab's teaching sessions. The bench half is Molecular Cloning and Wilson & Walker, and these are the volumes that decide how the methods chapter is worded, down to buffer composition and centrifugation steps. Tietz is the department copy in the clinical biochemistry lab, consulted for reference intervals and assay principles when validating any method the thesis reports.
