How this list is used

Reading for Physiology

Physiology scholars keep two books going at once: Guyton and Hall as the read-through that fixes the systems in the head, and Boron & Boulpaep as the one that answers the mechanism question the guide actually asked. Ganong is what most people revise the pre-PhD comprehensive from because it is compressed enough to finish, and Berne & Levy is the second opinion when Guyton and Boron differ in emphasis. Kandel comes off the shelf the moment the thesis touches nerve, muscle or autonomic recording, and Sperelakis is where the membrane-biophysics chapter of the introduction is built from. The department copy is the practical manual in the lab, dog-eared at the sections for whichever recording rig the thesis depends on.
